Worthing Poets

Many towns boast areas named after famous poets, and Worthing is no exception. Just east of Heene Road, you’ll find Byron Road, Shakespeare Road, Longfellow Road, and Shelley Road.

These streets are among the most sought-after in town for both property buyers and tenants, thanks to their convenient proximity to rail, sea, and town amenities.

For those unfamiliar with the area, allow us to take you on a virtual tour and highlight some of its features.

Starting from Heene Rd, a 50-metre stroll southward leads you to Browning Road, an Edwardian street lined with semi-detached and detached houses, many of which have been converted into spacious two-bedroom flats, some with allocated gardens. At the end of Browning Road, you’ll reach Shakespeare Road, where properties are larger, predominantly single houses with a few converted into flats.

Adjacent to Shakespeare Road lies Victoria Park, a spacious green area with football pitches and children’s play areas, bustling especially during the summer months. Shakespeare Road eventually leads to Shelley Road, a bustling thoroughfare that heads straight into Worthing town centre. While many of the grand Victorian villas on Shelley Road have been converted into residential care homes, some were demolished years ago to make way for purpose-built blocks of flats of varying quality.

Wordsworth Road, the southernmost of the poet-named streets, runs directly off the seafront. These substantial Edwardian properties, constructed from red brick and tile, may appear modest from the outside, but they often surprise with their spacious interiors, albeit with relatively small gardens. This location is particularly popular with buyers from London and Brighton who recognize the area’s potential and the allure of its beautiful homes. Worthing’s poet area truly offers something for every taste.
