Why We Love Ferring

Here at Home Sale Hub, we make no secret of just how much we love the area we live and work in. From East to West Sussex, we think it is one of the most welcoming, well-placed, well-connected areas for miles around. But we were thinking…

Every area has its good points but if we had to choose, which area would be the pick of the crop? We chatted it over in the office and one area came out as a firm favourite with nearly everyone. Ferring, in West Sussex.

To outsiders, Ferring may not even ring a bell – and perhaps that’s its charm. This quaint little village is a hidden gem, offering a mix of scenic beauty, community spirit, and modern facilities that make it truly special.

What to Do in Ferring

With fewer than 5000 residents living in just a couple of thousand properties, Ferring certainly isn’t what you’d call big. But for a small village, we reckon it seriously punches above its weight. Why? Well it’s a pretty long list…

The seafront.
Ferring arguably has one of the nicest stretches of seafront around. A coastal pathway makes a pleasant walk west towards East Preston and Rustington or East to Goring’s Greensward – ideal for picnickers in summer – and beyond to Worthing itself. It’s dog-friendly too, so you can bring your furry friends along to enjoy the beach just as much as you do. Ferring Beach offers a wonderful setting for relaxation, sunbathing, and swimming, making it a favourite spot for both locals and visitors. Apart from enjoying the beach, you can explore the coastal footpath that offers scenic walks to Worthing to the east or Littlehampton to the west.

The food.
Staying on the seafront, The Bluebird Café in South Drive is right on the seafront, is also dog friendly and has a good sized car park. It’s ideal for ice creams on a hot day or a warming hot chocolate after an invigorating winter stroll. The cafe serves the best breakfast, lunch and take away fish ‘n’ chips for the ones on the go. It has become a beloved spot for locals, offering a welcoming, relaxed seaside atmosphere and delicious meals that come with a view.

Dining Options. Andalucia Restaurant in Ferring Street has 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor and offers great Spanish Tapas as well as Mediterranean foods. Others to look out for are The Clockhouse Bar in East Preston and La Cucina in Rustington, all within easy reach. Another noteworthy spot is The Parsons Table in Arundel, a shortish drive from Ferring. It is most often praised for its exceptional modern British cuisine and cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

Is Ferring Family Friendly?

For Families.
Ferring Primary is popular with many local parents and Glebelands Recreation Ground or Ferring Village Green itself are great to let the kids burn off energy after school. Within a short drive is Out of Bounds, a golf club, soft play, bowling and climbing centre to keep them entertained on a wet day. The village also hosts various family-friendly events and workshops throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of community.

Accessibility.
Goring by Sea Station is only a short walk but you’ll still be able to catch a train to Brighton, Victoria, Portsmouth or beyond.

The A259 will quickly take you East/West and gives good access to roads heading North which is one reason Ferring is popular with commuters working in Gatwick or London. It’s also a very ‘walkable’ area, flat and pretty so there’s often no need for a car.

Shops.
The main High Street has a mixture of smaller shops and unlike larger villages, not too many chains. Asda is a recent addition just off the A259 and there are some popular garden centres here too. A trip into Worthing to stock up, will take about 10 minutes by car.

The properties.
It’s a cliché to say there is something for most budgets, but it’s true here! Retirement flats, starter homes, ex-local authority property, bungalows galore and large seafront houses will help attract almost any buyer.

Add some beautiful thatched property, barn conversions and other character homes and the mix is complete. A 2 bedroom flat will cost around £300,000 and up, with large houses and family bungalows over £1,500,000. The property market here has seen a steady increase in value, making it an attractive option for investors as well.
